Britain's Best Skier Recommends Skiing the Dolomites

It’s the 35th anniversary of Konrad Bartelski skiing “like a mad-man” to become Britain’s Best Ever Downhiller.

He Beat the Worlds Skiing Greats

At 80mph, you pass four London buses every second. Ons Sunday 13th December 1981 in the Val Gardena, Bartelski was fastest at the race mid-point, but sat-back on the final jump and missed the top slot by .11 of a second – a single bus length!

Bartelski beat the worlds skiing greats in the Dolomites famous downhill race that Sunday, including Klammer, Poborski, and Leonard Stock. 35 years on and Bartelski remains Britain’s most successful skier and there is no sign of him loosing his crown anytime soon.

Every Dolomites Ski Safari relives the thrill of the Classic Saslong Men’s World Cup Downhill. Ski the Camel Humps and get a sense of that 80 mph take off. From start-gate to finish you ski the race line learning of the dramatic history of this legendary race slope.

 

One Week – 3 World Cup Pistes

The Saslong is one of three world cup pistes on the Dolomites Ski Safari itinerary. Follow in the tacks of Lindsay Vonn on the World Cup piste in Cortina d’Ampezzo that hosts the Women’s downhill and giant slalom races. In Alta Badia, take on the Gran Risa, home for the mens World Cup slalom.
